Permatang Pauh: It's Najib vs Anwar - Malaysiakini

By Athi Veeranggan | Aug 8, 08 7:04pm

The Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election results will be a 'referendum' on Anwar Ibrahim's desire to become the prime minister.

It will indicate public confidence in the Anwar-led Pakatan Rakyat's drive to initiate urgent reforms to the nation’s political governance, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

From the outset, he said, it would be an electoral battle between the Pakatan Rakyat opposition leader and Barisan Nasional premier-in-waiting Najib Abdul Razak.

"Although the BN designated prime minister will not contest the seat, nonetheless it looks like a battle between him and Anwar," he said when asked whether the Permatang Pauh verdict would steer Pakatan Rakyat to seize power at the centre.

Najib heads the BN election machinery for the Permatang Pauh by-election scheduled on Aug 26. Nomination day falls on Aug 16.

"Let's see who Permatang Pauh chooses," said Lim, who is also Penang chief minister at his office today.

At a rally in Seberang Jaya last Sunday, Lim introduced Anwar as Pakatan Rakyat’s premier-in-waiting to a large crowd mainly consisting of Permatang Pauh constituents.

Although Anwar faces a fresh sodomy charge, Lim is confident the allegation by the PKR de facto leader’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan would not stand and have a major impact on the final outcome.

Lim said the police’s remark in court yesterday that Anwar had fully cooperated with them in their investigations would dampen BN’s effort to depict a bleak picture.

He said BN would not be able to convince the public that Anwar did not cooperate, and is thus "hiding something."

"It will boost Anwar’s public rating," he added.

He said many people have realised now that the sodomy charge was ‘plotted’ to discredit and smear Anwar and deprive him the chance of returning to Parliament.

"Obviously the more BN slanders, the better is his chances of winning," he added.

  1. It is paramount for DSAI to pledge various types of reforms should DSAI and PR comes into power as the next federal government.

A clean government requires the work , quality and efficiency of all government agencies and civil service personnel.
This means all agencies requires a total revamp and the way they do business with the public.
The main issue is still on corruption .Make corruption as public enemy number one .
Revamp the punishment /penalty to be on par with the dangerous drugs act. At the same time simplify rules , procedures , licensing and regulations for people doing business .
Wiping out corruption effectively and having friendly business procedures will improves the economy and welfare of the rakyat .
Do realize that just by having lower fuel price will not be effective if the former 2 issues are not tackle.

Best wishes to all Malaysian,DSAI and PR and lets move another step further to change the government .

  2. Nostradamus Quatrains on Malaysie

In the year of the great games started by the Greeks
Hosted by the nation of heavenly emperors of times before
    In a land called Malaysie
    Great turbulence and strife engulf

A land where a Genghis Khan’s Descendant was shred to bits
Blown by the winds to the heavenly clouds
Where the accused are finally crowned
    Amid great trepidation and acrimony

Then arose among men of honor
A man of the faith of Mohammedans
Kings and Rulers let him reign
And a new nation was born

Great leaders bring forth divination and revelations
A land of many tribes divided was thus united
The color of men was blurred and lost
By great competition to give their best

Herein lies the destiny of men
Who showed the meaning of democracy and humanity
Religions and languages flourishes as times before
A land as peaceful as Shangri La

Malaysie, a stopping point of travelers must see
Back to the days of great Sultans and Rajas
Nations and men afar come to seek their wealth
Knowledge, trade and life flourishes as before
