Terengganu MB confirms giving statement to ACA - Star

KUALA TERENGGANU: Aug 11, 2008

Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said has confirmed giving a statement to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to assist in its investigation into several projects carried out by the state, including the sponsorship of the Monsoon Cup and construction of the Islamic Civilisation Park.

Ahmad said four officers, including two from the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya, had taken his statement for an hour at his office in Wisma Darul Iman, here Sunday.

"I gave information on several matters (projects) in addition to the Monsoon Cup and Islamic Civilisation Park," he said when met by reporters at a function for the Terengganu media, here Sunday night.

Earlier, Terengganu ACA director Sharuddin Sapian said the ACA would be getting a statement from Ahmad regarding the Monsoon Cup and Islamic Civilisation Park, which were carried out under the previous state administration.

Sharuddin said the Mentri Besar's statement was needed because he himself had raised the issues. The ACA did not dismiss the possibility of the state's former leaders to be called to give their statements to help in its investigation.

Meanwhile, this year's Monsoon Cup may not be held following news that there were no preparations being made so far by the main organiser, TBest Events.

Ahmad said at this time, the organisers should already be holding discussions with the state government on the sponsorship of the championship to be held at Pulau Duyong, near here.

"However, until now, the organisers have not informed of their preparations, including the side events.

"Three months ago the organisers met me to discuss the Monsoon Cup and they had asked the state government to increase the sponsorship allocation for the event this year.

"However, I have not heard of any development on the event from them or whether it will be held or not," he said. - Bernama
