KOTA BARU: Sept 2, 2008
Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said the state government was in favour of the proposal to declare Sept 16, the date of Malaysia's formation, as a public holiday.
He said the suggestion should be accepted and implemented by all the Pakatan Rakyat states -- Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Selangor and Penang.
"I can accept (and) if the other four states can also accept, it will be better," he told reporters after launching the state-level Integrity Day here on Tuesday.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had proposed that the leadership in the five Pakatan Rakyat-led states declare Sept 16 a public holiday.
On Monday, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he would consider the matter.
