Dewan rejects motion to discuss Raja Petra declaration - The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: Jun 24, 2008 By NG CHENG YEE

The Dewan Rakyat rejected an emergency motion tabled by Lim Kit Siang (DAP - Ipoh Timor) to discuss blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin’s statutory declaration over the Altantuya Shaariibu murder case.

In the declaration, Raja Petra claimed that three people – one of them a prominent woman – were present at the scene during the murder of the Mongolian translator in October 2006.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the motion was rejected as there were pending cases in court involving Unit Tindakan Khas (UTK) operatives C/Insp Azilah Hadri, Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar, political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda as well as Raja Petra.

Lim filed the notice of emergency motion at 10am on Monday.

In his notice, Lim said the credibility and legitimacy of the Abdullah Ahmad Badawi premiership and government would suffer a mortal blow if the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the latter’s wife continued to remain silent on the allegations made in the declaration.
