Today, Parliament will see if Barisan Nasional MPs from Sabah will walk their talk.
It will be a test of their loyalty to the Barisan or whether they will follow through on their fiery speeches last week when they aired their frustrations over Federal Government policy.
Sabah MPs will have to decide on how to vote on an amendment by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to his motion of thanks on the Royal Address.
Lim is incorporating a clause calling for an inquiry on Sabah’s longstanding illegal immigrant problem.The Ipoh Timur MP gave notice to Parliament on Friday on the clause, which in part reads: “A Royal Commission of Inquiry should be established to resolve the longstanding problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah to the extent that there is legitimate fear that Sabahans are being outnumbered by foreigners in their own state.”
When asked what their stand would be on Lim’s motion, several Sabah MPs said they would wait to see what the motion was all about, while others questioned the necessity for a commission.
Sabah Progressive Party president Datuk Yong Teck Lee, although not an MP himself but whose party has two MPs, said they would make a commitment after studying Lim’s motion.
Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh, who was outspoken on Sabah issues including illegal immigrants in Parliament last week, said a royal commission was not necessary.
Pensiangan MP Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said: “What we want is action. There is no point for a commission if it ends up just another toothless tiger.”
Karamunting MP Datuk Edmund Chong of Parti Bersatu Sabah said he wanted to see what Lim’s motion was all about first.
Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin said he would be voting against Lim’s motion as a royal commission was not needed.
