Pakatan states form secretariats on policies - The Star

KOTA BARU: May 8, 2008

The five states in the Opposition alliance have formed secretariats to coordinate and streamline their administration policies, said PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

He said Kelantan would initiate a meeting between the five chief ministers and mentris besar in the Pakatan alliance after he returned from performing the umrah next month.

The Kelantan Mentri Besar also said that the state would submit claims for compensation from the Federal Government over unpaid rental of public low-cost houses and a decade-old shortfall in disbursing of funds to the local authorities.

The State Financial Officer has been tasked with the job of calculating the sum that Kelantan would be seeking from the Federal Government, he said.

Since 1990, the grants disbursed to the local government of Kelantan were only the basic and compulsory ones but additional funding, which was enjoyed by other states, was not given to Kelantan, he said after chairing the bi-weekly state executive councillors meeting.

On the development of the East Coast Economic Region, Nik Abdul Aziz said the Federal Government had directed them to form a working committee to liase with.
