PR wants Truth and Reconciliation Commission on May 13 - The Sun

KUALA LUMPUR (May 13, 2008): By Giam Say Khoon

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) wants a Truth and Reconciliation Commission be set up to review the May 13 incident in 1969.

In conjunction with the 39th anniversary of the incident, the PR wanted May 13 to be reviewed and made a historical heritage to enable the future generation to appreciate the values of democracy, justice and hatred against corruption as well as to unite all Malaysians.

Other than that, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said PR will practise and implement another four principles to ensure there will be no recurrence of such an incident.

"The people love peace and condemn violence taken by the authorities that caused the racial tension. We uphold the 'People's Supremacy' (Ketuanan Rakyat) principle as the basis of unity for Malaysians and reject extremism as well as religious issues that angered the people.

"We urge the authorities to be fair and just, and not to succumb to any political pressure in carrying out their duties. We want the democratic system and the constitutional monarch system to be upheld without discrimination," he told reporters in Parliament lobby today.
