DE FACTO PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may not count himself as one of the MPs yet, but he is a hot topic of discussion in the House.
Debating the motion of thanks on the royal address, Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi (BN – Batu Pahat) had criticised Anwar for failing to act against corruption during his tenure as Deputy Prime Minister when Azmin Ali (PKR – Gombak) said that the latter had tabled a Bill in Parliament to enhance the Anti-Corruption Act.
“I remember the then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was on holiday in Europe and Datuk Seri Anwar was acting PM.
“I had to arrange for the live conferencing between Anwar and Tun, and Tun then tried to stop the former from tabling the Bill. On the contrary, under the current Prime Minister, there’s too much political rattling, but no action,” he claimed.
Azmin said he also knew of one Umno division head who had “bought” his position for RM6mil during party elections. This caused Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN – Pasir Salak) to accuse Azmin of making baseless accusations.
Dr Puad then commented that “siapa makan cili itu rasa pedas (whoever commits the crime is feeling guilty).”
However, this did not stop Tajuddin from challenging Azmin to repeat his statement outside the Dewan.
“I will sue him. I give him 24 hours to do so,” he said. Dr Puad then announced that he was moving on from debating on corruption in the administration to that taking place in football, prompting laughter from the floor.
Earlier, he said it was time that the Attorney-General’s chambers be reformed as many high-profile corruption cases were being lost due to the lack of dedication from the prosecution officers.
Dr Puad also called on the federal and Selangor government to review the water transfer project from Pahang.
