Dewan Rakyat: MPs challenge household monthly income report - The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: May 12, 2008

Both DAP and Barisan Nasional MPs seemed to speak in unison in voicing complaints that the methods used by the Prime Minister's Department in reporting the country's household monthly income were inaccurate.

Speaking in Dewan Rakyat on Monday, Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) said people complained to him that they received lower household income rates than the ones stated by the Government.

Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh (BN-Kalabakan) also agreed and cited that the high level of poverty in Sabah didn't reflect the true income levels for the country.

In reply, deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department S.K. Devamany said the Government used internationally-accepted standards in its survey, adding that different approaches were used to detect the hardcore poor in the country.
