Khalid to IGP: Honour promises of trouble-free by-election

SHAH ALAM: Aug 10, 2008

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has reminded Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan to live up to his pledge of a smooth and trouble-free Permatang Pauh by-election on Aug 26.

Khalid said the police must allow politicians to address the people and should not frustrate speakers by stopping the ceramah (talks) halfway, as it would be viewed as a form of harassment.

“Campaigns must be allowed and political speeches should not be disrupted, and this goes for both sides on the campaign trail. Police should maintain public order and be neutral,” he said.

On Saturday, Musa assured that police would monitor the situation in Permatang Pauh and ensure public order throughout the campaign period.

Khalid said that based on his experience in the 2007 Ijok by-election when he was on the opposition front, the police had on several occasions stopped ceramah halfway despite these having been issued permits.

“We hope this (will not happen) in Permatang Pauh ... let both parties have their freedom of speech,” he said.

Khalid said he plans to meet 36 PKR assemblymen and several MPs in Shah Alam on Aug 12 to chart out the strategies to be used in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Hereby strongly protest the unruly behaviour of Zulkifli Nordin (PKR-Kulim ).
His action at the Bar Council forum reflects he is a RACIST.
It is not about protecting his own religion and his action is very detrimental to PKR .
The same applies to PAS.
But if is PAS, maybe some of us will forgive them.As it is the nature of PAS to protest just about anything and everything.
But such action from Zulkifli Nordin is totally unacceptable to most Malaysian .
We will NOT accept any apology from such person. It is better for him to leave.
We do NOT need such MP and we do NOT need such PKR member .

If PKR is of opinion that the Bar Council is in the wrong. Please advise them to postpone , change venue , behind doors forum or over the internet.
The subject cannot be change, as the issue have to be dealt with sooner or later.
As for Zulkifli Nordin , he better leave. As that was NOT the way to protect religion .It is perfectly alright if we PR lost out a parliament seat instead of being label as pariah party.
Better to be a credibility party that reflects the high hopes of Malaysian and this region.
