The Malay Solidarity Congress taking place here was urged to call on the government to revert to teaching mathematics and science in Bahasa Malaysia.
Peninsular Malaysia Malay Teachers Union secretary-general, Ishak Ismail, said the policy calling for the subjects to be taught in English was flawed as it did not make students more proficient in English.
Speaking at the congress at the Persada Convention Centre here Saturday he said there were other ways to get students to be better in English such as having additional classes in the language.
Meanwhile, popular film producer, Shuhaimi Baba speaking at the congress, suggested making a film that could restore the Malays' spirit and therefore ensure their solidarity.
She said she would consider producing such a film after realising at the congress that the spirit and unity of Malays was eroding.
