KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The fate of former Gerakan deputy secretary-general, Datuk Lee Kah Choon, in the party will be decided by the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) and its powerful decision making body, the Central Committee (CC).
"I leave it to the CC and CWC to decide. We have to go through the CWC to deliberate and decide on his position or his membership," Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon told Bernama when met at the party headquarters, here Monday.
However, Koh refused to reveal whether the party would sack Lee, who was also a former CWC and CC member.
Lee had taken up an offer to run a state government agency, the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) in the `Pakatan Rakyat' controlled Penang state government.
The party CC is scheduled to hold its meeting this weekend while the CWC meeting is expected to be held before the CC meeting. The date for the CWC meeting is not known as it is normally not open for media coverage.
Lee, formerly parliamentary secretary to the Health Ministry, took up the offer from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to be the Director of PDC and as chairman of the executive committee of Invest Penang (RPT Invest Penang), a subsidiary of PDC. He started his new job last Friday.
Koh said he met Kah Choon after the latter announced his decision to quit from all party post on April 4, four days after the party received the resignation letter from him.
"The letter was dated March 30 but we only received it on April 1. It was not an April Fool's joke as we had thought. Then despite all this, I have arranged to meet him.
"Obviously, there is some misunderstanding when on April 5, a day after our meeting, he denied there was such a meeting between him and me," he said.
Koh said during the meeting on April 4, Kah Choon had presented him a plan on how the party could play a role as a watchdog body to be headed by Kah Choon.
"However, I told him that I needed more time and had to discuss this with other party leaders first.
