PENANG: April 23, 2008
Former Gerakan deputy secretary-general Datuk Lee Kah Choon said he will withdraw his membership in the party.
In a faxed statement, he said he had submitted a letter to the party leadership so that he would be able to move on and focus on his duties as Penang Development Corporation director and InvestPenang executive committee chairman.
Lee had earlier resigned his posts in Gerakan to take responsibility for the party’s stunning losses in the March 8 general election, in which Barisan Nasional lost the state of Penang to the opposition coalition now known as Pakatan Rakyat.
Gerakan acting president and former Penang chief minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said that Lee would be served with a show-cause letter asking him to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for accepting the posts.
“The party had directed party members to relinquish all appointments as municipal and district councillors as well as Village Security and Development Committee members in states now ruled by Pakatan Rakyat,” Dr Koh said in a statement on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, Lee said his political affiliation and his decision to accept the appointments were two separate issues.
