PAS youth to pressure KDN to renew Makkal Osai permit - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, MON: April 21, 2008

The PAS national Youth movement today demanded the Home Ministry (KDN) to reconsider its decision not to renew the publication licence for Tamil newspaper, Makkal Osai.

PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub said the KDN should consider the fate of the 102 employees of the company if the decision was to be maintained, besides showing proof and concrete evidence on the mistakes committed by the newspapers.

He said this after leading a PAS Youth delegation on a visit to the Makkal Osai office and a dialogue with the newspaper’s management at the Kompleks Batu, Jalan Ipoh, here. Also present was Makkal osai News Editor, B.R. Rajan.

On Thursday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said that the government had decided not to renew the publication licence of Makkal Osai after finding that the newspaper had on several occasions breached the media guidelines stipulated.

Rajan said that so far the newspaper had not received any feedback from the ministry after making an appeal on the same day.
